WINES OF CRETE

Cretan winemaking industry has entered a new growth path following a mindset of cooperation and synergies, since 2006.

The Heraklion Winemakers’ Network and the Chania -Rethymnon Winemakers’ Network are are two networks that work for the promotion of Cretan wine not only within the island but in other places as well. These two networks operate in autonomy, but at the same time they cooperate at all levels under the umbrella of Wines of Crete and they share their schedule of collective activities.

The main objectives of this action are two. On the one hand, the promotion and recognition of Cretan wine, both inside and internationally and, on the other hand, the development of Wine-tourism on the island, taking advantage of the ‘tourism’ advantages displayed by the island. The main actions of Wines of Crete include training both consumers and professionals, presenting the elaboration process to the audience through wine-tastings and exhibitions, and creating all the necessary tools for the finest achievement of such communication.

 

CRETAN OLIVE OIL NETWORK

The unique nutritional value of olive oil has been proved scientifically, through well documented researches.

The Cretan olive oil, since the Minoan peoples’ times, constitutes a vital ingredient of Cretan nutrition, which has been the epitome of healthy diet globally.

In 2011, by the initiative of nine bodies in Crete, the “Cretan Olive oil Network” came into existence, having as its primary goal to project the historical, social, environmental and culture-related importance of olive products and mainly of olive oil, so that its beneficial merits become widely known, and so that its consumption is increased, both in Greece and abroad.

For the realization of this goal, we have united our powers and our ambition is to render the Cretan olive oil the best ambassador of Crete in the rest of the world.
