Piraeus is a vibrant port city, with a fascinating history and sights worth seeing. In its welcoming embrace you will find on a daily basis thousands of people travelling to the Aegean Sea and Crete and others visiting Piraeus for food, coffee, entertainment, shopping and walks near the sea. In Piraeus there are important monuments, such as a part of the walls of the 5th century BC, remains of ancient temples and buildings. You will also see industrial buildings of the early 20th century, preserved neoclassical buildings and impressive modern constructions such as the Peace and Friendship Stadium and the G. Karaiskakis Stadium, home ground of Olympiacos, the “Legend of Greece”. You should visit the neoclassical Municipal Theater, the Archaeological museum and the Hellenic Maritime museum. In Piraeus there is also the only monument dedicated to the Genocide of the Hellenism of Pontus, an imposing contemporary work of art, at Alexandras square.
