The National Gallery – Alexandros Soutsos Museum is a historical museum holding important collections of Greek and European artspanning five centuries. For this reason, it occupies a prominent position in the cultural life of Greece and contributes to the strengthening of our cultural identity, particularly since its collections include works connected to the depiction of the historical course of the Greek nation-state.
On the first floor of the permanent exhibition, we have the opportunity to walk through the beginnings of modern Greek art, from the post-Byzantine period to the end of the 19th century, through representative works of painting and engraving.
On the second floor of the permanent exhibition,we follow the evolution of Greek painting in the 20th century.
On the third, top floor of the permanent exhibition, we trace the evolution and simultaneous appearance of multiple movements of contemporary art, which reflect the social, cultural and technological changes in the Greek artistic scene from 1960 to 2020.
